Music

The church has a musical tradition that is respected beyond the parish and diocesan boundaries.

The Parish Church Choir has a membership of over 55 singers that is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music.  The Music Director is Jonathan Venner and the Choir Administrator is James Prior.

The choir leads the regular Sunday worship at both the Sung Eucharist (10.00am) and Choral Evensong (6.30pm). Additional services are sung on major church festivals.

The choir regularly sings services at cathedrals around the country. Recent weekly visits have been to York Minster (2003), Wells Cathedral (2004) and Norwich Cathedral (2005). They returned to York Minster in August 2006 and have sung Choral Evensong at Westminster Abbey on Easter Monday, 24th March 2008.

The choir has made a number of commercial recordings . In addition, souvenir recordings of highlights from various cathedral visits are available for purchase.

To accommodate the choir a major refurbishing of the vestry and music library was completed in 2001. This work was made possible by a generous grant from the Pilling Trust.
