About The Choirs
St Edward's Church has a fine tradition of choral music, with its choir making a unique contribution to the weekly worship.
There are two groups for TREBLES: a Junior choir for boys and a girls aged 7+; and a Senior group called 'Choristers'. The Juniors rehearse during term time on a Friday 6.30pm-8.30pm. Choristers rehearse weekly on a Monday evening from 5.00pm - 6.00pm as well as from 7.00pm-9.00pm on a Friday.
Juniors are invited to join the 'Choristers' having had about two years experience, provided they have shown the commitment, concentration and enthusiasm necessary to cope with the extra demands. Choristers sing for the majority of Choral Evensongs as well as taking part in concerts and cathedral visits.
The men's choir consists of about 16 adults who sing regularly with the trebles as well as independently on occasions. The adults rehearse on Fridays 7.50-9.20pm. We are always looking for new members singing alto, tenor or bass. No formal audition is required but an ability to sing in tune and read music is essential. Please contact the Director of Music for more information.
In addition to the regular weekly rehearsals there are two main sung services on Sundays at 10.00am and 6.30pm.
A termly diary is published which lists rehearsals, Sunday services and other special events.
In order to maintain this tradition in Romford today, the choirs rely on the continuing recruitment of girls and boys aged between seven and ten, to train as trebles.
